Explore The Matlocks town centres with two self-guided heritage walks with a treasure hunt theme. Discover The Matlocks's "hidden treasures" whilst having a fun day out with family and friends!
The Matlocks sit in the Peak District. Matlock became famous for its Hydros (Hydrotherapy centres) which were world-famous, with celebrated visitors such as Robert Louis Stevenson and Ivor Novello. It also had a cable tramway inspired by San Francisco’s, rising 300 feet up a hill – tuppence up and a penny back. In 1698 warm springs were discovered at Matlock Bath and a bath house was built. Lord Byron compared the village to alpine Switzerland, and it became known as Little Switzerland. Cable cars link Matlock Bath with the Heights of Abraham.
