Yorkshire (see map below) is massive, embracing no less than three National Parks - the Yorkshire Dales, North York Moors and the Peak District, with a spectacular coastline among the finest in Britain, much of it protected as Heritage Coast. Famous for its Yorkshire pudding and fish and chips, it is also a mecca for retail therapists. Then there’s the heritage, with the streets of ancient York to explore, and castles, abbeys, museums and stately homes to visit. For the outdoor lovers there are long paths to walk, mighty hills to climb, the trans-Pennine canal to navigate, or the legendary Settle-Carlisle Railway to ride. You can even go down a real coal mine!
Yorkshire includes North Yorkshire, South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire and the East Riding of Yorkshire.
